e11 BID Success

Business in the Leytonstone commercial centre have voted a resounding yes to establish the first town centre Business Improvement District (BID) in North London and the second BID in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. Of the businesses which participated in the ballot, 95% voted for the establishment of a BID in the Leytonstone commercial district. The e11bid has garnered support from premier businesses such as Matalan, Mcdonalds and Boots. Gary Ince, Chief Executive of North London Business commented that the result showed how much this was needed to help develop Leytonstone to take best advantage from its strategic position. Gary said this will show all businesses that Leytonstone has a future.

A BID is a defined geographical area where businesses come together to decide how to improve their trading environment. Through consultations, a range of projects are agreed and these are then put to a democratic vote involving all the businesses in the area. A BID grants businesses an opportunity breath new life and energy into areas of business and commerce.

The success of the e11bid is the result of the positive and dedicated efforts of a partnership between the London Borough of Waltham Forest, businesses represented by the Leytonstone Business Forum (LSBFCIC) and business support agencies for North London .  A BID for Leytonstone signals the second success story in the Councils strategic aim to ensure that local businesses have a powerful voice in the operation and prioritisation of services in their business environment.

Fawaad Shaikh, who chairs the LSBF said “Localised management and efficient delivery of baseline services is the essence of the e11bid, combined with the 30 thirty projects under the 6 themes, the e11bid will prove in time, to be one of the most progressive and innovative approaches to the spirit of BIDs in the UK, keeping our town centre thriving well beyond 2012”.

Councillor Clyde Loakes, the Leader of the Council said “Through the success of a BID, Leytonstone’s rich culture and proud heritage is given a sound foundation from which it can look forward and be confidently prepared to maximise its potential and benefit from imminent opportunities presented to the business community in Waltham Forest , an Olympic borough”.

Councillor Terry Wheeler, Cabinet Member for Enterprise and Investment said:

“I am absolutely delighted that so many businesses have participated in the e11bid ballot and voted yes for a Business Improvement District in Leytonstone.  Through the opportunities of BID status, the Leytonstone business community can look forward to a more secure commercial future of increased growth and investment”.

The e11bid Company will be incorporated on the 2nd July 2007 and start trading on the 16th July 2007. The official launch of the bid company will be announced in due course.
